So I work with Tequila a lot but it wasn’t until I started listing all my recopies here that I realized I don’t have a lot that I actually made that I cared to write down. Most are always some version of a marg with just fun different flavors so I never kept them. This particular cocktail isn’t like that at all. A balanced but bold as hell cocktail with a surprisingly easy finish.
- 1 Oz Reposado
- 1 Oz Amaro
- 1 Oz ex Gratia
- 1 Oz chamomile simple
Stir and serve up with a cherry. It should look like a black Manhattan in a glass but it is far different that that
SO to start for Reposado and Amaro I will make a suggestion for both but of course finding similar styles of both is totally acceptable. For Repo I suggest finding Centenario Tequila. It is an underrated brand in my opinion with the juice inside that bottle doing far more talking then the bottle does. For amaro I think Luciano is perfect for this drink. Subtle where it needs to be but never not bold enough to be recognized.
Ex Gratia I’ve praised so many times. Its a beautiful Génépi from Golden moon. Its the liquor given to people who are about to be executed. Hence the name of the drink being a reference to the execution of a bandito.
Finally chamomile simple is just a nice floral note that adds a more earthy sweetness that pairs well with the other flavors here. I would love to give a more exact reason for this one but WELL its just delicious.
