This one is just a fun drink. I imagine Greek sailors during the height of the Greek empire on boats drinking this more elevated version of a pirates “Grog”
Recipe
- 2 Oz Rum
- 0.5 Oz Italicus
- 0.5 Oz Dry Orange Liquor
- 0.5 Citrus Simple
- 0.5 Chamomile Simple
Stir this group and serve over a stone with an orange twist.
So this one is a fun one. Lots of getting to play with ingredients. The Italicus is the real show with a herbal almost Gin like taste to it. It ties everything together in a lovely display.
The Orange spirit does need to be on the less sweet side. Gran Man may be a touch too sweet for what this is supposed to be De Kuyper Dry Orange Liqueur is close to what I used. Grove street is the brand I used though. ITS stunning and everything they have ever handed me has been outstanding. Its just hard to find in a lot of the world.
Finally the syrups. The Citrus is simple enough with it just being a ton of peels from lemons and oranges boiled low and slow to create an almost bitter citrus syrup. The chamomile is harder though. Fresh Chamomile is decently hard to find but creates the best flavor. If you have to use chamomile tea that’s acceptable just make sure to try and get one that’s as close to 100% chamomile as possible.
