So this one was a summer cocktail I made for a bar that needed something that was easy to make for the bartenders BUT I was given the the time to prep for them.
2 Oz Fords Gin
1 Oz Lemon Juice
1 Oz Citrus Berry Syrup
Shake then serve up in a coupe with a lemon twist
So I’ll start with the syrup. So it was first off blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries that I squished up like a caveman with a muddler in the bottom of shaker. Just wanted enough of those flavors and well it worked so I kept doing it. Then comes the citrus which is process but SO worth it. So its just peeling the outside of oranges, lemons, and limes before then cutting off all that white stuff. Adding just the flesh of the fruit and the peels cuts out that white membrane which brings a lot of bitterness. Making a syrup out of this is pretty simple with cooking all the ingredients on low in some water then adding sugar to just the liquid. You should add sugar to taste cause I personally only did a quarter sugar instead of 1 and 1.
The syrup taste rather nice though and adds a fruitiness that turns this gimlet love child into something that fits perfectly into the summer time. The lemon juice was selected to be sweeter as well to compliment it more.
Fords is just basic and controllable. I love the gin and it does exactly as it should adding a bit of nice herbal notes to this flavor and chilling out the sweetness
Now the name is also fun. It is the name of the Greek goddess of berries and daughter of the god of all booze Dionysus. She’s known for being quite lovely from what little we know of her so it felt like this would be like being held by the goddess of berries as she would be making a gift for her father. I just hope she loves what I made in her name.
